Anita is a Mexican rag doll dressed in her home state of Guanajuato's traditional dress. Her best buddy is Miguel the frog. He is named after Guanajuato's beautiful city San Miguel de Allende.
The name Guanajuato is based on the Purepecha word Cuanaxhuato ("mountainous place of frogs") given by the indigenous Purepecha people because they believed the mountainous terrain of the land resembled frogs. Hence the creation of Miguel the froggy mascot accompanying Anita the doll.
